THE EXTRADITION TREATY

SIGNED IN SECRET WITHOUT ANY DEBATE

The 2003 Extradition treaty between the United Kingdom and the United States was signed in secret using an arcane parliamentary rule called 'the queen's prerogative' which meant the then home secretary, David Blunket, could sign the treaty without any parliamentary scrutiny whatsoever, and since this particular treaty not only affected every single person in the United Kingdom, but effectively threw away their rights entirely, it is tantamount to a betrayal of british citizens if not actual treason. The wording of the treaty was presented to parliament the day before the holiday recess and some three months after it had been signed, sealed and delivered, thus precluding any attempted objection. It was then put into effect even though it had not been ratified by America which continued to act in accordance with the previous treaty. America will not submit an American national to a foreign jurisdiction. Because of the pressure when the Nat West Three were being extradited under a treaty that only had one signatory, Baroness Scotland was sent over to talk the senate into recommending the signing of the treaty with an altered wording.

As it now stands to extradite someone from America, evidence, which can be contested in an American court, has to be provided, conversly to extradite someone from the UK to America NO evidence is needed and it is not contestable in a UK court. This is what Alan Johnson said is 'balanced and equal'

The UK, it claims, will not extradite anyone to a coutry which condones or uses torture (??) or which has a bad human rights record (??) or which uses the death penalty. (??) (the state which wants Gary McKinnon, Virginia, not only uses the death penalty, but all the staff of the pentagon live there and it has already been stated to his solicitors that one state wants to see Gary 'fry'. This year alone up to the 7th of July..... 34 people have been exectued in America. ......On june 2nd one Terry Hankins was executed in Texas.... he was the Governor's 200th execution.

By way of comfort to Gary's Family (and of course necesary to enable the district judge Nicholas Evans to approve Gary Mckinnon's extradition in the first place) the American Embassy sent a note to the court saying 'no death penalty would be asked for'.....the note was unsigned.
